Adding to the multiple victories secured in earlier meets in the season, Cal State Fullerton’s track and field won three events at the USC Trojan Invitational this past weekend. Those events were men's long jump, high jump and pole vault.
The hosts of the meet along with Brigham Young University, were dominant in the invitational. The Trojans took home 15 events, while Brigham Young University won 10 events.
Christian Wood and William Dower soared taking the top two places in the long jump. Wood leaped 7.40 meters and Dower jumped 7.06 meters; Long Beach State’s Michael Hull took third at 6.92 meters.
For pole vault, Titans’ Samuel Heinrichs took home the top spot as he cleared a new personal best 5.06 meters.
Shallamar Poole barely narrows out Trojan’s Dallas Wise in the high jump for first place. Poole ascended 2.14 meters, and beat Wise by .04 meters. Poole and Wood have won at least two events each early in the outdoor season.
Throughout the invitational, Fullerton athletes broke personal records, made history and held placements in the Big West Conference.
Titans’ Cooper Bibbs finished in second place in the men’s 100-meter dash with a time of 10.34 seconds, just .03 seconds behind the Trojans’ Eric Allen Jr. Titans’ Alonzo Floriolli’s time of 10.36 seconds places him in third all-time. Floriolli followed Bibbs in fourth, then came Titans Rasaun House in fifth, and Naythn Scruggs at sixth.
Bibbs’ time on March 19 was the second-fastest all-time performance for the Titans. For the Big West this season, Bibbs and Floriolli’s times are the top two placements for the event thus far.
CSUF’s London Lee once again came in second place at 11.83 meters in the women’s triple jump while Sela Pastrana, who won the triple last week, fell to third place at 11.77 meters.
The conference’s season-best time for men’s 4x400 meter relay now belongs to the Titans with a time of 3:07.41. The event resulted in a second-place finish for Fullerton, just a fraction of a second behind the leading Trojans. The Titans' time also places them third in the West Region’s Division I outdoor track and field.
The Titans continued their play as the men's 400-meter relay team finished in third place with a time of 40.56 seconds, just .01 behind Long Beach State.
CSUF’s Reyte Rash concluded the men’s 110-meter hurdles in third place at 14.67 seconds while Titan Matt Cohen hurdled toward fifth place.
Titan Rayann Booker finished in fourth place in the women’s 100-meter dash as she ran a season best 11.91 seconds. Her time is now the third best in the conference, but seventh in the Titans All-Time list in this specific event. CSUF’s Hailey Murdica followed in fifth place.
For the women’s 100-meter hurdles, CSUF’s Amira Hawkins’ new personal best time of 14.25 seconds resulted in a fourth place finish and the third best time in the conference.
The Titans will head to Los Angeles for the Bob Larsen Distance Invitational and the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational from March 25 and 26.
